  • What is functional medicine?

  • Functional medicine is a personalized, holistic, and root-cause approach to care. Instead of simply putting a band-aid over what’s currently bothering you (as is often the approach in conventional medicine), functional medicine practitioners instead ask why.

They look at your life from the beginning and dig deeper with specialty lab testing and research into your medical & family history, lifestyle, mental health, and more—to truly optimize your health.

While it has elements of naturopathy and traditional Chinese medicine, functional medicine is really about blending our knowledge of holistic, natural medicine with modern science and advanced lab testing to restore balance to your biology.

Learn more about functional medicine and why we’re adamant about making it more accessible here.

  • What is a functional practitioner at Malla?

  • Malla’s functional practitioners are registered dietitians or licensed nutritionists who are trained in functional medicine and functional lab testing, as well as in behavior change science. Not only do we develop a health plan tailored to you, but we also help you actually implement it!

  • Can I just buy supplements?

  • Yes! We want to make holistic health as accessible as possible. So, if you’re not ready to dive deeper into your functional medicine experience by signing up for the Malla Membership, rest assured you can still shop our site for our sustainably packaged supplements that are formulated by functional medicine experts.

Just know that, as a Malla Member, you get 20% off all Malla products.

  • Where is Malla currently available?

  • We are currently shipping supplements to all 50 states in the U.S. and are able to see members in the states listed below. We’re determined to rapidly expand across the U.S. (and beyond) to serve as many Malla Members as possible. Stay tuned!

  • Does Malla accept insurance?

  • No. We believe that we will be best able to serve you as a cash pay healthcare platform. It allows us to focus solely on creating a great experience for you, not to cater to insurance companies. Insurance has its place in the healthcare system, but planned care should be clearly priced for an optimal customer experience…the way it is in any other industry.

This approach lets us focus on you instead of working with insurance companies to get paid, helps you know what you’re paying for without the confusing copays and deductibles, and, ultimately, puts you in control of your health.

That said, we are working hard to ensure that the Malla Membership becomes HSA / FSA eligible to further drive down costs for our members.

And we know that for better or worse, insurance is a big part of the way consumers currently spend on their health, so we will continue to listen to our community along the way. Doing what’s best for you is our priority.
